Having an offence is the best defence in the battle to improve and/or keep a certain level of democracy in North America. It has a battlefront here in Canada, too: It’s called the battle for Fair Voting: It’s simultaneously a battle to make seats match votes (proportional representation), a battle to make votes equal, and a battle for democratic inclusion.
If we get that in Canada, this will stand as a beacon of hope, resistance, and even North American progress against the democratic degradation and democratic exclusion that’s happening in the US. (For example, proportional representation is also one of the antidotes to the current insane gerrymandering wars that are currently happening in the US.)
When our Canadian politicians don’t stand up for the civil right to Fair Voting, then it’s up to Canadian citizens to fight for those rights --including in Canadian Courts. No one else can do it for us.
Our Canadian grassroots supported Charter Challenge for Fair Voting just filed our Application for Leave to Appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada (on October 10, 2025). This could literally be a game-changer in Canada, and thereby influence the broader international political landscape. So you may want to sign up for updates if you haven’t already. Just saying.
